Building Renewal, Energy Efficiency & Community Development Campaign

Muhajra Masjid is more than an 8,500 sq. ft. building. It is a house of Allah, a place of worship, a Mosque for Qur’an and Islamic education, and a gathering place for our community.
Muhajra masjid now needs important improvements to ensure that it remains safe, comfortable, energy-efficient and functional for the generations to come.
We are launching a $477, 000 Building Renewal Campaign to address critical building needs, modernize our heating and cooling system, improve the prayer facilities, upgrade the roof and parking, strengthen security, expand Islamic education and support our Imam and Maktab teachers.
A Special Investment in Our Future
The masjid currently has a 1960s-era boiler. Rather than installing an expensive new central duct system, we plan to transition toward an energy-efficient ductless split heat-pump system designed for zoned heating and cooling.
The existing boiler will remain available as a backup heating system during periods of extreme Michigan cold.
This approach is intended to improve comfort, reduce unnecessary energy use and avoid the major construction disruption associated with installing extensive new ductwork.
Project Budget
Prayer Area Renovation
Energy-Efficient Ductless Split HVAC
Installation of a high-efficiency, multi-zone ductless heat-pump system, including indoor and outdoor equipment, electrical connections, controls, refrigerant piping and commissioning.
The existing 1960s boiler will be retained as backup heating for extreme cold conditions.
Parking Improvements
Improvements to the existing parking area, including pavement rehabilitation, grading, drainage, parking layout/striping and pedestrian circulation improvements as required.
Landscaping, Fencing & Rear Gate
Improvements to the property perimeter and grounds, including fencing, landscaping and a controlled rear-street access gate to improve security, appearance and site functionality.
Musalla / Prayer Carpets
Imam & Maktab Teachers
One year of support for the Imam, two male Maktab teachers and two female Maktab teachers.
This support helps provide daily religious services, khutbahs, Qur’an education, Islamic studies and structured Maktab programming for our children.
New Roof
Major roof replacement/renewal to protect the building from water intrusion and weather-related deterioration.
The allowance includes roofing materials, insulation as required, membrane/system installation, flashing, drainage components and associated roof repairs, subject to final professional inspection and contractor specifications.
Wudu Area & Plumbing
Renovation of the wudu facilities and associated plumbing, including water supply, drainage, fixtures, flooring and related improvements for hygiene, durability and safe daily use.
Security System
Installation or modernization of security cameras, recording equipment, access control and exterior monitoring to improve the safety of worshippers, students and staff.
Rooftop Solar PV
Development of a rooftop solar photovoltaic system to reduce long-term electricity expenses and improve the masjid’s energy sustainability.
The final system size will be determined following assessment of the roof condition, available roof area, structural capacity, electrical service and utility interconnection requirements.
Maktab & Madrassa Initial setup
Improvements to educational areas used for Qur’an and Islamic studies, including classrooms, furniture, lighting, storage, flooring and instructional infrastructure.
Permits, Engineering & Contingency
Allowance for professional assessments, permits, inspections, engineering requirements and unforeseen project conditions.
